This week, the Book Boffz once again put their literary agility to the test with a return of the popular, Game of Quotes. After a busy week, the activity provided a welcome opportunity to slow down, enjoy some quiet reading, and share some fun.

The Book Boffz chose their own books and were then given some time to immerse themselves in their reading. When the time was up, a prompt was revealed and the challenge began: to race back through the pages to find the perfect word, phrase, or sentence which best responded to the prompt. While the structure of the game was familiar to many of the group, the new prompts ensured plenty of fresh thinking and creativity.

Prompts included 鈥渟omething you might find on the menu of a fancy restaurant,鈥 鈥渢he title of a new dystopian novel,鈥 and 鈥渁 sentence that would make a terrible school motto.鈥 The restaurant menu prompt produced some particularly memorable results, with offerings such as 鈥渟cum, duckweed, mud and sludge,鈥 the intriguingly named 鈥渃rumbly idiot,鈥 and the decidedly risky 鈥渟parkling cyanide.鈥

The dystopian novel titles were equally effective, sounding ominously convincing despite being lifted entirely from unrelated texts. Suggestions such as Status Deactivated, The Annex, and Nemesis Is Coming would not have looked out of place on a bestseller list. The terrible school mottos prompted plenty of amusement, with one especially unfortunate contender being 鈥淵ou probably had other choices,鈥 which quickly became a firm favourite.

As always, biscuits added to the enjoyment of the session, and the Book Boffz rounded off the week on a high note. The Book Boffz meet every Friday at 3.45pm in the Junior Library. Any Thirds and Upper Thirds who enjoy books and reading are very welcome to join.
